Dr. Robert Stüwe

Dr. Robert Stüwe is a ZEI Senior Fellow. He was a ZEI Research Fellow between October 2015 and September 2021. His main fields of expertise included the European Commission, external energy policy and rule of law in the EU. In 2020, he earned his PhD in Political Science at the University of Bonn with a thesis on the EU's power problem in external energy relations ("magna cum laude") under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ludger Kühnhardt. At ZEI, he coordinated the research project "Governance and Regulation in the European Union" which analyzes the policies of the EU institutions. He had editorial responsibility for the ZEI Monitor, the Future of Europe Observer and the ZEI Insights. Dr. Stüwe is the co-editor of the edited volume "The Juncker Commission: Politicizing EU Policies" (Nomos Publishing House, Baden-Baden 2020) - the first comprehensive scientific analysis of President Juncker's term of office. In 2014 he completed the Master of European Studies in European Law and Politics at ZEI after having graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Bonn in 2013.

In addition, he was a Research Affiliate at the Center for European Neighborhood Studies (CENS) of the Central European University (CEU) and a visiting lecturer at the Andrássy University in Budapest. Furthermore, he served as a thesis reviewer at the University of Malta. As a guest speaker, he also analyzed developments in European politics in front of a non-scientific audience (Gustav Stresemann Institute, Goethe Institute, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Johannes-Albers-Bildungsforum, Bundeswehr, Vocational College Bonn-Duisdorf, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Democracy International, European Academy NRW) and for domestic and foreign broadcasting (Phoenix TV, WDR 5, bonnFM, ERR - Estonian Public Broadcasting, Radio 100.7 - Luxembourg, TASR - News Agency of the Slovak Republic) as well as for news magazines (Euractiv, Börsen-Zeitung).
