Renato Frederico, assistant to the coordinator of the West Africa Institute based in Praia, Cape Verde, visited the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) between 20 March and 30 March, 2011. The main purpose of his visit was to get to know the work of the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) both in terms of research as well as education. This visit formed part of the current cooperation between both institutes, funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). During his stay, Renato Frederico became acquainted with the organization of ZEI in all its different layers, from the administration and the library, to the work within the single research groups and the two master programs, MES and MERNI. Furthermore, representatives of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the University of Bonn informed Mr. Frederico about possibilities of funding research and training.

The exchange of personnel between both institutes serves the support of the West Africa Institute and provides both organizational and technical input for its consolidation phase. Consequently, especially those experiences of ZEI that are of value to WAI were commented and discussed. During meetings with representatives of the German Ministry of Education and Research, both parties emphasized the importance of continuing exchange of experience within the cooperation of both institutes. This will contribute to establishing WAI into a sustainable research institution within West Africa.
