The Resilience of Arab Monarchy
Ludger Kühnhardt
The transformation in the Arab world requires a more intensive reflection in Europe and in the United States about the implications for Western policies toward the Arab world.
ZEI Director Prof. Dr. Ludger Kühnhardt pleas for a stronger and more coherent Western policy toward the transforming Arab world. In an article for the world-renowned "Policy Review", published at Stanford University, Kühnhardt discusses the perspectives for Western policies in light of the Arab Spring. He emphasizes the implications of the Arab Spring for hereditary Arab monarchies. Kühnhardt compares their situation to the constellations that have either led to the failure and dissolution of monarchies in Europe or to their gradual democratization and parliamentarization.
